MEET THE BROTHERS
A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
SAMARTH DESU '23
My first interaction with PGN couldn’t have gone worse. When I was a freshman trying to figure out how to navigate the business community at Cornell, I had so many questions: How do you get more involved with business outside of academics? What exactly is a business fraternity? What makes PGN so special?
But instead of asking one of these logical questions, I asked a brother: is your frat’s house on North or West?
He laughed for a minute (a long minute, I might add) but then explained that professional organizations don’t have a designated house. While it functioned differently than a social fraternity, it was built upon a lot of the same ideas of community. It’s a group of brothers with similar passions and interests, working together to help each new member sculpt their own professional path.
In a career field as broad as business that can mean a lot of things. Do you want to be an entrepreneur creating cutting-edge products or would you prefer to explore the different aspects of finance? Or maybe you enjoy tackling hard problems through consulting or diving deep into the world of marketing?
In PGN, the brotherhood is always at your disposal, whether that means coaching you through technical questions, refining your behaviorals, or helping you connect with alumni from firms like Goldman Sachs and SpaceX. At Cornell, PGN is a truly unique community because it amasses such a wide range of industries and occupations.
While the career perks are an invaluable asset, it isn’t the best part of PGN—it’s the people. My favorite memories in college aren’t studying for technicals or memorizing my pitch deck, it’s the time I had a spike ball tournament outside Upson with a few brothers, and when I had 20 brothers inside my cramped apartment on College Ave. making pizzas. Little memories like those will forever shape my time at Cornell.
Circling back to my embarrassing introduction to the organization, we don’t have a set house, but I can guarantee if you are looking for a group of people that want to see you succeed both personally and professionally, this is the group for you. I couldn’t be happier to consider so many brothers in PGN some of my best friends.
